Our Commitment to Web Accessibility

Courtney Robertson is committed to providing a website experience that everyone can use, including people who rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnification, and keyboard-only navigation. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and I work continually to improve courtneyr.dev for all visitors.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities. This site aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. It is currently partially conformant: most of the site meets the standard, but some content does not yet fully conform and remediation is ongoing. New pages and features are checked against these standards as they are built.

Accessibility features on this site

  • Semantic, well-structured HTML with a logical heading order and page landmarks
  • A skip-to-content link and keyboard-operable navigation
  • Color combinations checked for sufficient contrast, plus a light and dark theme toggle
  • Captions and interactive text transcripts on videos, via the Able Player media player
  • Descriptive alternative text for images that carry meaning
  • Ongoing automated and manual accessibility testing

Where I am still improving

In the interest of honesty, some areas do not yet fully meet the standard and are being worked on:

  • A few video transcripts are auto-generated from captions and may contain errors or omit speaker labels.
  • Some embedded third-party content (YouTube, Instagram, SlideShare) and linked PDF documents may not fully meet accessibility standards.
  • Older posts are being reviewed and remediated over time, including some form labels, color-contrast, and alternative-text items.

I also cannot guarantee the accessibility of third-party websites that I link to.

How this site is tested

Accessibility is evaluated with a combination of automated tools, including the Equalize Digital Accessibility Checker plugin and color-contrast analyzers, together with manual checks such as keyboard-only navigation and readability review.
