Hallway Chats: Working in Tech Support

Did you know that I used to work in WordPress tech support release communications? It was the perfect job while juggling 2 babies that were less than 15 months apart.

I learned so much in my time at The Events Calendar about the inner-workings of a WordPress products company. I grew in my understanding of the workforce and also in my interpersonal skills.

Thanks Liam and Tara for having me on Hallway Chats to share about it.

It’s been nearly 2 years, but I’m finally adding any appearances and content to my own site from places I’ve spoken.

Working in WordPress tech support taught me so much about communication, problem-solving, and understanding how real people use websites every day. These experiences shaped how I approach everything from community contributions to speaking at events. If you are curious about getting involved with WordPress beyond building sites, there are many paths to explore โ€” from contributing to educational content to helping others troubleshoot common issues. The WordPress community is full of opportunities for those who want to share their knowledge and grow professionally. Whether you work in support, development, design, or content creation, learning to listen and respond thoughtfully is a skill that transfers across every role. My time in WordPress tech support reinforced the value of patience and clear communication, especially when helping people navigate unfamiliar tools or solve unexpected problems on their websites.
